You get fat when you are going to have a baby

Yesterday I had the cutest little girl come in and get her teeth cleaned. It was her first visit and she had A LOT of questions. I cleaned her teeth first and then cleaned her moms teeth. The whole time I was cleaning her moms teeth the little girl was asking me questions. 'Why are you doing that?' 'What makes cavities?', etc. Her mom kept apologizing and telling her daughter to be quiet. I didn't mind. Then the mom pointed to my belly and asked her daughter to ask me about what that is. "I know," said the little girl. "I noticed that when she came and got us. She is going to have a baby. You get fat when you are going to have a baby." The interesting thing is she said it very matter of factly, she was not being mean. The mom was very embarrassed and started apologizing. Honestly I didn't mind, because the girl was five and to her when someone is getting bigger they are getting fat. I actually thought it was pretty funny. Little kids can be very honest and in this case she was. So the moral of the story is, be very careful when asking little children questions, because they tell the truth!

Break down at Benihana

This happened back in December but I thought you would enjoy this crazy pregnant lady story. Every December my family goes to the Kurt Bestor matinee concert and after we eat at Benihana. This year, that same day was also a family party with my moms family. So we woke up and headed up to Bountiful. We were late for the family party because JP thought it started at eleven but it started at ten. (We are late for EVERYTHING so when our little girl gets here we are in BIG trouble!) We get to the party, I eat and start feeling better. After the party we head home. The concert starts in two hours. I am tired and lay down but can't fall asleep. JP went somewhere and when he gets home the concert now starts in one hour. He tells me I should get up and get ready. I reluctantly get up and get ready. Again we are behind schedule and off to the concert we go.

As we are pulling into the parking garage, the car in front of us rolls back and hits us. Thankfully no damage was done. So we run across the street and make it to the concert right before it starts. After the concert we hurry over to Benihana. We get seated and I have to go to the bathroom. As I am washing my hands, my little sister comes into the bathroom and asks me what I want to order. I am washing my hands, can you not wait? I get back to the table and everyone has ordered. JP asks what I want and I tell him I have not looked at the menu yet can he just mellow out. My dad then asks what I want to eat. At this point I start crying and say "Why do we have to rush so much. I just sat down. Can I not go to the bathroom without being bombarded with what I want to order? All day long I have been hurrying, can't we just relax!?" I should add here that my sister Kim had a date with her and there are people sitting on the table across from us and they are now talking about me and staring.

Come to find out, after the fact, our waitress was just in a hurry and adamant that everyone order NOW. Which made everyone hurry and order. I happened to be in the bathroom so my dad sent my sister in to get my order. Why do people have to be in such a hurry? We had just sat down! Anyways, hope you enjoyed one of my crazy pregnant stories!

PUT THE PRETZELS AWAY

Have you ever had one of those days, you know the kind when you wake up in the morning and think 'should I even get out of bed?' Yesterday could be called one of those days. My alarm went off, I got out of bed. I showered and thought about what I was going to wear to church, being that only very few things fit anymore it is not really a hard decision! I get out of the shower and JP asks me "Did daylight savings happen last night or tonight?" WHAT!? I had totally forgotten about daylight savings time. So it was now eleven and not ten and church starts in thirty minutes. I think about just climbing back into bed but then I have a calling to fulfill. So I hurry and throw on clothes and run off to church. As I am sitting in Relief Society I am thinking it is really hot in here. Then I start sweating bullets. I find something to use as a fan and start fanning myself. The lesson could not have ended any sooner because I was about to throw up. I get up and walk around the building for awhile and then go back to Sunday School.
After Sunday School we head into sacrament meeting. JP decides to sit in the middle of a row. The meeting was going really well. JP was snacking on pretzels. He would eat some, put them away and then get them out again. It is really hot in sacrament meeting too and next thing I know the smell of the pretzels is not good. I turn to JP and tell him he needs to put the pretzels away. He looks at me and is confused. I then explain to him that the smell is making me sick and he has to put the pretzels away NOW. He puts them away and then asks "Can I eat a jolly rancher?" Your wife is about to throw up and all you can think about is how hungry you are! I almost start crying because it is so hot, I feel like I am going to throw up, I am stuck in the middle of a row and my husband is upset because I just told him to put the pretzels away. I did survive, as did JP, with no long term injuries but I am highly contemplating just getting back into bed next time!

Valentines Day

I know Valentines Day was a month ago but I wanted to share what JP and I did for Valentines. First let me just say that I have always loved Valentines Day because it is so close to my birthday. In elementary school I would take in valentines cupcakes for my birthday. I love the colors red and pink! The whole cupid thing is kind of cute and creepy! This year I told JP to not get me anything, and I was serious. I would rather get onesies or something for the baby then anything else. JP thinks that is boring. Anyways, to celebrate Valentines Day we went to the Monster Truck Jam the Saturday before. And yes, I am a red neck! It was a lot of fun! We did not take our camera though so we only have pictures on our cells phones. The last truck to go was Grave Digger and he tipped over. Of course we had to stay and watch them flip it right side up! We try to go every year but sometimes we miss it. I told JP that next year we will have to find a babysitter because I am not taking an almost one year old to the Monster Jam show. He didn't understand why I wouldn't! See, you know you married a red neck when he wants to take his baby to the Monster Jam show! I LOVE MY RED NECK HUSBAND!!!!

Freaking out

The other day I overheard JP talking to one of his friends about the upcoming arrival of our little girl. Although he is very excited he is also freaking out. His friend kind of laughed at him for this. "No," JP said. "She comes in two months! My life is going to be completely different." I just started laughing. I have tried to explain, for two years, that life is going to be different. No more jump in the car and take off to St. George trips last minute. They will have to be more planned out! No more really late nights out because a baby will have to be put to bed, etc. Yes, I know it is going to be a life changing experience but what else do you expect. We are going to be in charge of caring for and raising another person. (and hopefully not screwing up!) For the first couple of years she is going to be completely dependent on JP and I. Then one day she is going to tell us she no longer needs our help and do things herself. It is a little terrifying, but I am always up for a challenge!
I am planning on going back to work part time and lots of people tell me that is a mistake. I have decided that I have to figure it out on my own. So I will take two months maternity leave and then return part time. After two months working part time I will re-evaluate. JP was kind of shocked that I was not going back full time. I told him that was never an option. I then explained my going part time and then re-evaluating plan. He was surprised that I might possibly stop doing hygiene for awhile. I told him that I am in a different place in my life and if I feel that staying home is right for me then I will. What is more rewarding, working as a hygienist or being a mom? Being a mom! Yes I have wanted to be a dental hygienist since I was 16 and I, for the most part, love my job. But being a mom has been a life long goal for me and I don't want to look back and think I worked too much. JP has been very supportive of my decision, as he has with all my decisions. He has also figured out that once I set my mind to something, I don't usually change it!
So in a way I am freaking out too! I have a lot of decisions in the near future, but one thing I am not freaking out about is the fact that I am going to be a mom in two months. I cannot wait to hold our little girl. I can't wait to see JP hold our little girl! She is going to have the best dad ever! I can't wait to see how our dogs react to our new addition. I think Bailey will be fine, but Molly is going to be another story. Here's too a new chapter in my book of life!

You know, girls cost more

When people ask when I am due it is always followed up with, do you know if it is a boy or girl. When I tell them girl they are all excited for me. One day a lady said congratulations and then she said "You know, girls cost more than boys." At first I was like what!? The hospital charges you more for a girl! Luckily I was thinking this, because if I had spoken it I would have been made fun of. I then asked why girls were more expensive. "Because," she said "You have to accessorize and buy the matching socks for every outfit." Oh, so it is not because the hospital charges you more, thank goodness because if that were the case then someone would be hearing from me!
I have thought about this a lot and as I got the mail today in it was an American Girl doll magazine. Now for those of you who may not know about the American Girl dolls here is a very brief description. When I was in grade school there were three, Kirsten, Samantha and Molly. Each of them were from a different time period in US history. There are books about them. The actual dolls came out, I think, when I was in arm pit school, oh that would be junior high school. I would go through the magazine and circle all the dresses and accessories I wanted. Yes, that's right, accessories. You could buy the whole school room set, complete with a sack lunch, desk, dress, etc. Or you could but a whole tea party set, complete with table, four chairs, tea cups, etc. All miniaturized for the dolls. I actually own a Samantha doll and too this day I still get her down every so often and brush her hair and put her cute hat on, etc. (Yes I will never grow up!)
Anyways, I was flipping through the magazine and could not help but want to circle everything! And then I realized, this is what my little girl is going to do one day. And these dolls are not cheap! So not only will I have to buy all the cute bows, socks, and jewelery for my little girl, but I too want her to have an American Doll because they are so much fun to play with. Or fun to look at if your mom was like mine and you weren't allowed to play with her, just look! So that lady was right, girls do cost more! (I know they don't have too!)
I should mention though that I think boys may actually cost more and here is why: No, you don't buy all the accessories for them like you do girls BUT boys tend to get hurt worse, and you end up in the emergency room, or the local instant care, after they break their arm riding their big wheel. Or they have to get a tetanus shot every year because they cut their thumb, chin, whatever open and have to get stitches. If our little girl takes after JP, then we will be visiting the instant care often. If she takes after me, then we may be safe. (at least until sixth grade!)
